El Sol Conexión was established at El Sol Science and Arts Academy in downtown Santa Ana, California to engage the whole community in critical, creative conversations; to enjoy a wide range of cultural programs, workshops and events; and to support collaboration between teachers, families, university scholars, local artists and culture bearers.

RESEARCH
El Sol Conexion seeks to identify and support local artists and culture bearers by showcasing their creative contributions through events and workshops. We also seek to identify which programs, events and activities most interest and engage and impact life in the community.

Our research in the arts and humanities includes:

Engaging students and the public through presentations, interviews, story telling, genealogy and oral history projects:

Opening the Armstrong House as an interpretive history site deeply exploring the history of downtown Santa Ana as a way to better understand the multicultural history of California and of the developing nation;

To fully integrate the expressive arts, humanities, art history and ethnic studies into the whole school curriculum.

UC Irvine history and Chicano/Latino Studies professor Ana Rosas is the co-principal investigator along with Dr. Manuel Gomez and Sue Cronmiller, MFA for the research-driven UC Links program which supports the development of creative, academic programs for youth engaging undergraduates and K-12 students.

What is the Humanities?
“As one of the most naturally interdisciplinary subjects, poetry, philosophy, art history provides a vital toolkit for us to interpret and understand our world. The way we go about practicing it needs a serious retooling, precisely because art history offers such a nuanced lens to examine our society.” #ArtHistory #arts
